Predicting CME arrival times using the EUHFORIA model

Project
Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are primary drivers of space weather at earth, causing geomagnetic storms which can disrupt communication satellites, power grids and global positioning systems. As satellites are being utilised for more and more different uses, human infrastructure has become increasingly vulnerable to the effects of solar storms. Therefore, it is more important than ever before to careful monitor the solar environment and accurately model the propagation of CMEs. This project addresses the performance of the European Heliospheric Forecasting Information Asset (EUHFORIA) model available for users at ESA's SSA portal (http://swe.ssa.esa.int) . By comparing the arrival times predicted by EUHFORIA and the actual observed arrival time of the selected CMEs, we will assess the forecast accuracy and validate the model.
