Student Project/Studentprojekt

Project
Comet tails are very extended objects and cometary dust may spread all along the orbit. Sometimes a spacecraft out for something else may cross such a structure. Such opportunities can provide important windows into the physics of these structures. Previous project students Sofie Spjuth (2005) and Ilona Alexandersson (2011) investigated such possibilities for a set of spacecraft, identifying some such occasions. It is time to update their works, particularly for the Solar Orbiter spacecraft (launched 2020). This is the topic of the present project.
