ISDAT Assumptions
Considering the fast development in the computer technology, and the expected
long development period for the ISDAT, it was necessary to make a number of
assumptions at an early stage of the development. At the time of the project
definition, none of these assumptions were fulfilled. The adopted assumptions
are:
- Mass storage prices will allow a local storage of the data bases.
- Processing price/performance will allowing unpacking, calibration and formatting of data from raw data formats to be performed at the time of data analysis.
- Local and wide area networks will allow for considerable amounts of data to be communicated over networks.
- Standardisation of operating systems will allow operation on a number of platforms using the same source code.
