The role of coherent structures in the plasma heating near CMEs
Student: Massimo Chimenti,

Project
Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are huge impulsive outflows of plasma from the solar corona, of interest both in themselves and as drivers of space weather at Earth. As it propagates outwards from the Sun, various plasma processes act to dissipate part of the energy in a CME. This project aims at better understanding of the role of coherent structures in the heating of the plasma.

Coronal mass ejections are large eruptions originating in the solar corona, causing large perturbations in the solar wind.
